Dear Neighbourhood Link Member, Good Morning, and I hope you are well! Here is an update on neighbourhood policing in Syston, Thurmaston and surrounding villages for the week starting 03/11: What have the neighbourhood team been doing? As well as making your home look occupied, there are some quick and easy steps you can take to prevent opportunistic thieves from entering your home. We are doing everything we can to keep you safe. Some things you can do are: 🚪 Keep doors and windows locked and take the key out of the lock. 🔒 Prevent easy access to your home with locked gates or fencing. 🪟 Move/remove items which can provide easier access to windows, such as bins and garden furniture. 🪜 Burglars are known to use ladders to access upper windows to avoid intruder alarm sensors on the lower floors of properties. Keep ladders out of sight and ensure sheds, garages and outbuildings are locked.
This is just a selection of what the neighbourhood team have been doing, we have also been completing crime investigations, partnership working with other agencies and engaging with residents and businesses in the area. Our Priorities You’ve told us that anti-social behaviour (ASB) remains a concern in your community, particularly involving quad bikes and groups of youths gathering in parks and recreational areas. In response, we continue to work closely with partner agencies including Charnwood Borough Council (CBC), who are liaising with city council counterparts and the neighbouring NE11 Beat Team to address ongoing issues related to illegal bike use and ASB in Thorpebury in the Limes. Joint enforcement options and long-term preventative measures are being explored to deter illegal vehicle access. Patrols at the location have continued, resulting in the seizure of a motorbike. Submitted CCTV footage is being reviewed with the intention of issuing Section 59 warnings or vehicle seizures where appropriate. Enquiries are ongoing to identify the ownership of land being used, with a view to issuing a Community Protection Warning (CPW). We are also awaiting a response from developers regarding the feasibility of blocking off paths currently used for illegal access. Car cruise – The community has raised concerns about speeding and parking issues across various locations in the Charnwood East area. Retail theft has emerged as a growing concern within the Charnwood beat, with several stores repeatedly targeted by offenders. In response, officers have taken proactive steps to address the issue, including the collection of CCTV footage to support ongoing investigations and assist in identifying those responsible. Patrols have been increased at key locations, providing a visible and reassuring presence. Officers continue to engage with store staff, holding beat surgeries at retail sites to strengthen partnerships and gather valuable intelligence to help prevent further incidents. Upcoming Neighbourhood Consultations 11:00AM - 12:00PM, Tue 09 December 2025 – Thurmaston retail park 1:00PM - 2:00PM, Sat 13 December 2025 – Syston town square Neighbourhood consultations are a good opportunity to discuss your neighbourhood concerns and meet your local policing team. Please come along and speak to us. I hope you all have a lovely week, have fun and keep safe! Kind Regards, Beat 61 Neighbourhood Team | ||
